Ileostomy readmission risks: Post-discharge care for patients

Ileostomies are complex surgical procedures performed for colonic obstruction or colonic bypass. Postoperative readmission rates among ileostomy patients have become a growing concern, with studies reporting an incidence of approximately 10% to 30%. This prompted a closer examination of causes of and strategies to reduce readmission rates as compared to other surgical procedures.
