5-year survival and prognostic factors for resectable colon cancer: A single institution experience in Lebanon

www.doi.org/10.52768/jjgastro/1147

Background: This study aims to analyze the 5-year Overall Survival (OS) and the Progression-Free Survival (PFS) of patients with localized CC as well as studying the impact of various prognostic factors. It's the first study evaluating survival and prognostic factors for resectable CC in the region.

Emesis, terrors and multiple autoimmune syndrome: Coincidence or novel association?

www.doi.org/10.52768/jjgastro/1148

We report a rare combination of coeliac disease, type 1 diabetes, eosinophilic esophagitis, alopecia areata, multiple food allergies, asthma, and atopy, that initially presented with recurrent episodes of vomiting and night terrors. This case demonstrates that atypical symptoms may be the first link to an autoimmune or inflammatory disease, especially if combined with a family history of autoimmunity. Continued research and an interdisciplinary approach are required to evaluate the genetic association between common autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Two cases of severe gastritis associated with immune check point inhibitor therapy

www.doi.org/10.52768/jjgastro/1149

In recent years Immune Check Point Inhibitors (ICIs) have played an integral role in the treatment of a wide variety of malignancies. Despite improvements in survival outcomes with immunotherapy, immune related Adverse Events (irAEs) are increasing in incidence. Gastrointestinal toxicity in the form of immunotherapy-induced colitis appears to be a relatively common irAE, affecting up to 25% of patients [1]. There is limited discussion however regarding immune-related gastritis, which is a relatively rare adverse event.

Poor prognostic effects of lymphocytopenia induced by preoperative chemoradiotherapy in rectal cancer

www.doi.org/10.52768/jjgastro/1150

Background: Lymphocytopenia is a potential poor prognostic factor in various cancers. We evaluated the prognostic effect of lympho-cytopenia caused by preoperative radiation therapy and chemotherapy in rectal cancer patients.

Indigenously modified endoluminal vacuum-assisted closure therapy for post-operative gastrointestinal leaks: Successful case series

www.doi.org/10.52768/jjgastro/1151

Introduction: Treatment of gastrointestinal perforations and post-operative anastomotic leaks remains a challenge. Endoluminal Vacuum-assisted closure (E-Vac) therapy has positively contributed, in recent years, for the management of gastrointestinal tract perforations and postoperative anastamotic site leaks by using the same principle of vacuum-assisted closure therapy of external wounds.
